Financial Aid Information & Links

Students need to complete the FAFSA or WASFA, depending upon eligibility requirements.  If unsure of which application, please use this questionnaire to determine which application to complete.

FAFSA

The information in the FAFSA is sent to the colleges listed in the FAFSA application.  The college or university then uses that information to determine the amount of financial support offered to the student.  Many universities or colleges offer merit based aid and require that the FAFSA is completed.  We encourage students to complete the application as soon as possible after the FAFSA opens to maximize the amount of potential aid.

Below are the general steps to complete FAFSA.

  1. Student creates FSA ID
    1. note: social security number needed
  2. Student starts FAFSA application
    1. Application should be for UPCOMING academic year
  3. Student sends invite to parent/guardian to complete their section
  4. Parent/Guardian creates FSA ID
  5. Parent uses invite link to complete parent/guardian section and submits application.

WASFA

  1. Complete the WASFA eligibility questionnaire
  2. Complete a WASFA for the first time

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS

Most of these scholarships use the standard WVHS application form.  Students should check the instructions for each scholarship, however, to ensure the correct information is submitted.  Scholarships applications can be submitted at any time prior to the deadline by students should be sure to check with class rank and GPA after 1st semester grades (including Running Start) are entered, usually by March.

Applications turned in after the deadline will not be sent to the committee – students are responsible for time management and submitting all necessary documents for their applications by the deadline. Staff is available to offer assistance but the ultimate responsible party is the student.

We encourage students to write a thank you to the scholarhips committees for their award.  Without the support of the community, many opportunities would not be available to our students.  If thank you cards are needed, please see the high school office.
